The Science Fiction Genre

I love science fiction. There is something about aliens, advanced technology and futuristic vehicles that gets me very excited. From books to movies, I rarely find a science fiction story boring. I think the reason I love the genre’s movies and books so much is because they make me feel about ten years old every time I see or read them.
Star Wars was probably the first science fiction movie that I saw. I am talking about the original trilogy (in other words the good trilogy, my copy of which is sadly located in self storage in another country right now). Lightsabers, mystical priests and space battles…what more could a young lad want in a movie? The settings were also fantastic. I love to lose myself in alternate realities, there is something about getting away from the normal routine of everyday life that is very appealing to me. Even the new Star Wars movies, although hardly great, were still enjoyable to me because it was science fiction.
The greatest movie of all time, in my opinion, is a science fiction movie, and that is Blade Runner. The setting that Ridley Scott created will forever be engraved into my head. Whenever I imagine what a futuristic world might look like, the Los Angeles dystopia of Blade Runner comes to mind.
Of course, the great science fiction movies does not stop at these two. We have War of the Worlds and Signs along with anime classics such as Akira and many, many more. Science fiction greatness is also not simply restricted to movies. Within the genre, we have some of the greatest novels of all time. War of the Worlds is arguably one of them, as is the Dune series, my favourite books of all time. Wherever you look in the genre of science fiction, you are going to find some unbelievable stories, characters and settings. I love science fiction.
